GerbMagic - A free viewer for Gerber RS274x and Protel ASCII PCB. A vector converter from Gerber RS-274x and Protel ASCII PCB to PostScript and PDF. Also a high resolution Software RIP(Up to 30,000 DPI) from Gerber RS274x and Protel ASCII PCB to TIFF, BMP, RID format. A lot of Gerber and PCB files can be grouped onto a single page in WYSIWYG(what you see is what you get) fashion. The whole page can then be converted to a selected format.

 Gerbmagic Protel compatibility
Hi,
I downloaded gerbmagic for I wanted to open Protel gerber files and design files (.pcbdoc). But then I found, that the free tool GCPreview I have in use also opens the gerberfiles created by Protel and GerbMagic does not open .pcbdoc files, only .pcb files, which seem to originate from a different Protel version. As I don´t have Protel available, I cannot influence the output file creation, so I´m using the import filter of Mentor Graphics Pads system which we own for that purpose. I have a generic postscript driver as well as a pdf writer installed, so I don´t really require the conversion option that GerbMagic provides. Yet, I believe, it´s a good and convenient tool, just at the moment, I can still do without...

Just used it to verify that the print driver was reproducing the original drawing (done in Adobe Illustrator). Other than a visual check, didn't really test out the software much.

It did do what I needed, and what it does I like Viewmate better
